(CNN) - Regardless of the death of the White House race, winners and losers show immense grace when it comes to crossovers in the US presidency. Nothing casts more points than those letters which the outgoing presidents have left to the incoming inmates of the White House.
Barack Obama to Donald Trump
"Congratulations for a remarkable race, millions have put their hopes in you, and all of us, regardless of the party, hope for more prosperity and security during your term.
It is a unique office without a clear plan to be successful, so I do not know if any advice from me will be particularly helpful. But let me offer some reflections of the last 8 years.
At first we were both blessed, in different ways, with a happiness. Not everyone is so happy It is up to us to do our utmost to create more scales of success for every child and every family that is willing to work hard.
Second, American leadership is truly indispensable in this world. It is up to us, through action and example, to support the international order, which has been steadily developing since the end of the Cold War and which is dependent on our own wealth and security.
Third, we are only temporary inmates of this office. This is what makes us aware of these democratic institutions and traditions - such as the rule of law, the division of powers, the equality of protection and the civil liberties - which our ancestors fought and purified. Regardless of the pressure and the attraction of everyday politics, we must leave these instruments at least as strongly as we have found them.
And finally, take the time, in the hurry of events and responsibilities, for friends and family. They allow you to cross the inevitable points.
Michelle and I wish you and Melania the best when you do this great adventure and that we are ready to help in any way.
Good luck and good looks,
George W. Bush to Barack Obama
